The glass finish changes the whole feel of a railing — and the invoice. Here is how to settle between the three finishes people actually ask for, and why the cheapest one is usually also the right one.
Clear glass (what we recommend)
It is the popular choice by a wide margin — roughly 90% of installations. What you get:
- A completely unobstructed view
- More daylight through the space
- The clean, modern frameless look
- The lowest price of the three
It is the default for a deck railing with a view, a pool fence you need to see through, or a staircase you want to keep bright. Groupe ENO supplies premium clear glass exclusively.
Frosted glass
Sandblasted or acid-etched glass that passes light without passing sightlines. Upside: privacy, a soft designer look, and the obvious answer for a divider between condo balconies. Downside: 30 to 40% more expensive, and the etched face reads as “dirty” over time if it is not cleaned on a schedule.
Tinted glass
Bronze, grey or smoke. Upside: UV protection, less glare, a deliberate architectural statement. Downside: 40 to 60% more expensive, and the view is never quite the view again.

- Budget: clear (most affordable), then tinted, then frosted
Our recommendation
On roughly 95% of projects, clear glass is still the best call: better looking, cheaper, and easier to live with. If privacy is the real problem, solve it with orientation and planting first — that is far cheaper than paying a premium for frosted or tinted panels.
