Mistake #2: Ignoring Building Codes

Glass railings must comply with local building codes. In North America, guards are generally designed for a 200 lb concentrated load and 50 lb per linear foot (IBC/IRC), and there are specific mounting requirements for elevations over 30″. Glass thickness should match the system: 12mm tempered is the professional standard for frameless railings.

How to avoid: Request engineering test reports from your supplier, and confirm the required guard height with your local building department. If a supplier can’t provide test reports, walk away.
